Abstract:

The rapid integration of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems into single-phase distributed generation networks has heightened concerns regarding power quality, stability, and reliability under dynamic operating conditions. Traditional proportional–integral (PI) controllers often fail to mitigate nonlinearities, harmonic distortion, and voltage fluctuations caused by PV intermittency and grid disturbances. This paper proposes a hybrid control framework that combines an adaptive nonlinear proportional–integral (NPI) controller with a fuzzy logic control (FLC) strategy for single-stage, single-phase grid-connected PV systems. The NPI controller, coupled with a moving average filter, effectively regulates dc-link voltage, suppresses double-frequency oscillations, and enhances transient response. Meanwhile, the fuzzy logic controller provides robust decision-making under uncertainties, mitigating harmonics and improving synchronization with the grid at the point of common coupling. System modelling and simulation are performed in MATLAB/Simulink to evaluate the proposed scheme under varying solar irradiance, load fluctuations, and grid disturbances. Comparative analysis with conventional PI controllers demonstrates that the proposed approach significantly reduces total harmonic distortion (THD), improves voltage stability, and ensures efficient maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The results validate that the fusion of NPI and fuzzy logic controllers offers an effective solution for enhancing power quality and system robustness in grid-tied rooftop PV applications.
