Abstract:

This study examines the distribution of male and female teachers across different school management types in Madhya Pradesh, using data from the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE). Through an examination of the workforce composition of the teaching workforce at government, aided, private, and other institutions, the study draws attention to gender differences and their possible effects on state educational planning and policy. The study's conclusions will help raise awareness of gender equality in teacher preparation, and, in turn, contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, particularly SDG-5 (gender equality). The study proposes key strategies for building equity into teacher recruitment, emphasizing the need for comprehensive training and professional development to enhance teachers’ skills and ensure equal growth opportunities. It also highlights the importance of policy monitoring and data disaggregation to identify gaps, track progress, and address disparities in recruitment practices. In addition, effective retention policies are essential to sustain diversity in the workforce by creating supportive environments that encourage teachers from varied backgrounds to remain in the profession.
