Abstract:

Professional Development of Teachers (TPD) is universally recognized as an important lever of better education results. The research questioning under this study is; what is the relationship between coherent, sustained professional development among teachers and the resulting impact on student learning and academic performance. This paper has shown that there is a positive correlation between effective TPD and improved student outcomes through review of relevant literature, mixed-methodology and statistical evaluation of data collected during teacher training programs and student performance indicators. The results indicate the effectiveness of long-term, content-focused, and multi-individual TPD programs in comparison to the isolated or generic training. Policy formulation and school-level implementation strategies are recommended to optimize student learning by facilitating teacher learning.
