Abstract:

This paper investigates the comparative financial accounting practices of multinational corporations (MNCs) operating in both developed and developing nations. As globalization accelerates cross-border business operations, MNCs encounter significant challenges in aligning accounting standards, meeting diverse regulatory requirements, and addressing cultural differences in financial reporting. The study evaluates key factors such as the implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), corporate governance mechanisms, disclosure transparency, and the influence of institutional environments. Employing a comparative case study approach, it analyzes the financial statements, reporting practices, and regulatory compliance of selected MNCs across differing economic settings. The results highlight notable disparities in accounting methods, disclosure quality, and conformity with global standards—largely driven by the strength of local regulatory systems and institutional maturity. This research enhances the understanding of how MNCs strategically adapt their financial reporting and offers insights for regulators aiming to promote accounting harmonization and improve transparency in international financial reporting.
