Abstract:

This report from the Standing Committee on Coal, Mines, and Steel was presented in December 2022. It noted that coal demand increased by 3% between 2014–2015 and 2021–2022, and was expected to increase by 4–5% in 2022–2023. The report also noted that the CAGR of imported coal's share decreased from 13.94% between 2004–2005 and 2013–2014 to around -2.29% in the last decade. The report also suggested that India should focus on optimizing its indigenous coal resources and using technology to become more self-reliant in energy security.
