Abstract:

Indian tea is among the finest in the world owing to strong geographical indications, heavy investments in tea processing units, continuous innovation, augmented product mix and strategic market expansion. The main tea growing regions are in Northeast India (including Assam) and in northern Bengal. Tea is also grown on a large scale in the Nilgiris in south India. India’s one of the world’s largest consumers of tea, with about three-fourths of the country’s total produce consumed locally. Hence with this objective in mind, this report aims to analyze the major countries in the world to ascertain their attractiveness as a destination for Indian tea exports. I start with a brief discussion about the Indian tea industry and its current trends and regarding the export of tea to various countries along with their statistics regarding production as well as the export statistics. I also have discussed about the nature of cultivation of tea the various processes involved in its production and brought into light the states and the district or places within the states which contribute towards the export of tea from India the quality and the types of tea has also been mentioned as per the data collected by me through various primary as well as secondary data. During my work along with the project I met various people concerned with the tea export as well as import the detail given by them has been mentioned in the project. Thus identified certain countries which can be our new focus markets and analyze the pros and the cons of the same.
