Abstract:

Three decades ago, the number of Container Freight Station (CFS) in Chennai was only Three. The Warehousing of the import and export goods and the second half customs formalities were carried out by these four CFS only. That in recent year, the number of CFS in Chennai has increased to 36 and the import and export activities are also larger than those periods. Thus, the competition among the CFS has become much higher. Further the CHAs do not rely on a single CFS. They keep on changing the CFS according to their performance on that time. Further, the CHAs expectations from the CFS have also improved to a large extent. Some Container Freight Stations do not possess the expected features and same possess the expected features abundantly. Thus, it I expected to identify the essential features expected by the CHA and the severity of the problems faced by the CHA. These requirements necessitated to carry out the study on the attitude of the Customs House Agent towards the Container Freight Stations.
