Abstract:

Expansive soils being the significant source of soils available in India they carry high swelling and shrinkage when presented to water and thus have been observed to be more trouble from designing contemplations. So, there is a need to balance out these soils to utilize for development. In such manner, the expansive soils properties are discovered. As a first thought, soil is stabilized with rice husk ash by varying percentage of 3% to 12%. In second thought, copper slag is chosen as an additive to balance out the expansive soil by varying percentage of 7% reaching up to 28%. In the last thought, test of expansive soil with 21% copper slag with varying percentage of rice husk ash from 3% reaching up to 12%. The prepared combinations are subjected to Atterberg, free swell index, UCS tests and readings are recorded. From the test results, the optimum percentages of additives in improving engineering properties of soil are obtained for rice husk ash is 9% and 21% for copper slag as on individual basis. As based on additives combination, the optimum values are found at 9% rice husk ash and 21% copper slag addition to soil
