Abstract:

The objective of this research paper is to understand the process of liquefaction of sand, use of coir fibre as reinforcing material in sand and the method of cyclic triaxial test, this research study also attempts to use coir fibre to make sand more resistant to liquefaction. The coir fibre is one of the reinforcing materials used in liquefaction resistance of sand. To study the resistance of sand to liquefaction coir fibre is randomly distributed in sand with different fibre content of about 0.25%, 0.5% and 1% by the volume of the sample and varying fibre length about 5mm and 10mm and tested in cyclic triaxial testing machine. Test results show that Sand liquefaction resistance rises as the amount of fibre content is increased. as well as fibre length. It also indicates that useof coir fibre in sand reduces the occurrence of liquefaction.
