Abstract:

In this paper we are focus the recent Trent in foundation. Spread footing for column, transmitting heavy to be massive. If rafts are provided, they need to be excessive thick to be rigid enough to control settlement within tolerable limits. A shell foundation, only a few inches thick, can provided the same rigidly as a much thicker raft. The substitution of shell foundation for spread footing and rafts can therefore lead to considered saving in concrete and reinforcement steel. The consequence cost reduction can amount to as much 50% in countries where construction materials are expensive and labour is relatively development and practical application relating to shell foundation has been carried out in developing countries, notably Mexico and India.
