Abstract:

Textile industry is one of the major industries that occupies a unique place in our country. During the processing of textile materials, large amount of waste water is released. The organic contaminants present in the waste water can be removed by the physico-chemical and biological treatments, which require chemicals, well equipped machineries, trained labors, vast constructed area, and creates many pollution problems. Thus there is a need of waste water treatment in an effective manner at lower cost according to the present industrial scenario. In this project, the extracts of Moringa Oleifera seeds were first used as the coagulant for treating the wastewater from textile industry. The waste water thus obtained is again made to pass through bios and filter with four types of biological layer such as Moringa Oleifera, Typha Aungustata, Sena Auriculata and Calotropis gigan. The efficiency of the biofilters towards turbidity, pH, conductivity, Chloride, Alkalinity, TDS, color and COD was studied. The results showed the higher efficiency in color, turbidity, alkalinity and COD removal.
