Abstract:

Swelling behavior of shallow foundations resting on treated expansive soil is generally affected by different factors. Some of these factors are related to the boundary conditions controlling the site deposition and the mode of water migration, while the others are related to the employed treatment technique for damping the heave potential of the expansive soil. Although the utilization of some treatment techniques were considered as an adequate techniques for reducing both swelling and swelling pressure of expansive soils, during the last decades, many problems occurred for shallow foundation buildings constructed on treated expansive soil. In this study the various physical properties of soil, compaction behavior of soil with addition of various admixtures, strength behavior of soil with addition of various admixtures, California Bearing Ratio of soil with various admixtures in soaked and unsoaked condition has been studied the strength and swelling characteristics of soil has been improved by adding admixtures lime and fly ash in the ratio of 2%,4%,6%,8% and 5%,10%,15%,20% respectively.

Keywords: Swelling, Admixtures, Expansive Soil, Standard Procter Test, California Bearing Ratio Test.
